I happened to be on the phone with my father when I read your email. Since he's had more experience with love than I have, I read your question to him. And since www.askpipersdad.com doesn't exist yet, I'll tell you what he said. "Seems like if he's not in love he's heading down the path to it." So there you go. If you're not there, you're close enough to smell it. Just be wary of the 'would die for' stuff, OK? A little levity in your love life right now might be just what you need. This sounds like a relatively new affair, this should be the fun part. Save the heavy stuff for later.
